Today Bobby had an "Advanced Professional Bike Fitting" done in Scottsdale at the "
Bicycle Ranch". It took about two hours and was done by Chris, who has been doing professional fittings at the Bicycle Ranch for the last 5 years.

He started off by measuring the bike (before any changes) and then measured Bobby and observed his stance and body symmetry.
Chris then took out a massage table and had Bobby get up on it and proceeded to test his flexibility and core strength. Once that was complete, it was time to get on the bike which was locked into a trainer. He had Bobby spin (peddle) as he observed his positioning on the bike, took pre and post fitting video using a digital camera/laser and took various measurements.
Bobby then hopped off the bike, Chris reviewed the computer video and then made a few changes to the bike. Seems as though there was too much space between the saddle (seat) and the handlebars, causing Bobby to have to reach farther than he should. He repositioned the saddle forward and replaced the stock handlebar "stem" (12mm) with a shorter (10mm) stem.

The changes ware very evident by the before and after pictures/video taken. Before the adjustments, Bobby's back had too much of a curve to it. Afterwards, his back was much straighter, as it should be. This should allow him to ride longer and more comfortably.

Although, it cost us $190, $150 for the fitting and $40 for the stem, it was well worth it and it was done quite professionally. Bobby can't wait to get out on the road for the "real test"!

Who knew bike riding was so scientific or physics-related or whatever??? But it all makes perfect sense. Happy biking!
